2015-2016 Season In Review

The 2015 NLMS Volleyball season was a huge success. The team finished with a 10-2 record. The team, consisting of eight 8th graders and four 7th graders, played other Junior High teams and a few Junior Varsity teams throughout the season. The team stats were impressive. Of the 222 total aces for the year, Kali Rhodes broke the NLMS JH ace record with 78. Faith Richardson had 41 aces, Aaliyah Carter had 38 aces, and Heaven Harris had 22. This team broke the NLMS JH kill record with a total of 112. Aaliyah Carter, with 39 kills, and Faith Richardson, with 38 kills, were the team leaders in this area. Faith Richardson had the only block of the year and was second in total digs (7) behind Anna Grace Wykoff (8). Ella Kate Brooks led the team in assists with 24 of the total 57. Jaaliyah Johnson had 16 assists and Heaven Harris had 8. Other players that helped us have a winning season include: Ryan Aderholt had 5 aces and 2 kills; Madison Hurst had 11 aces and 3 kills; Neeley Scott Murphree had 4 aces, 5 kills, and 5 assists; Anna Grace Wykoff, our defensive specialist/libero, had 10 aces, 2 kills, and 8 digs; Allye Buttram had 4 aces, 1 kill and 4 digs; Katelyn Vazquez had 3 kills, 5 digs and 1 assist.

This team was the first Sylacauga Volleyball JH team to play with a back row setter allowing for three front row hitters. This was something that Coach Stevens was willing to let us try but wasn’t sure would work. But, we proved him wrong! We did GREAT!!! From our summer camps (at home and at Samford) to our Pink/Yellow Out (where we raised money and awareness for ALS in honor of Mrs. Christie Caine) this team has improved from one play to the next. There was not one player who was not on the stats list and most were there in several different categories. From our awesome serving, to our great offensive hitters, to our wonderful defensive specialists, to our three spectacular setters, our team worked hard to get better with each match.
