All 7th grade students participated in the Scholastic Breaking Barriers Essay Contest last month. Following a short unit about Jackie Robinson and the values he used to overcome barriers in his life and career, students wrote an essay describing a barrier they have overcome. In it, they had to explain how they used one or more of Jackie Robinson's values to face this barrier.
Out of thousands of entries from across the country, TANK WRIGHT from NLMS won the 7th-9th grade grand prize!
As a prize, Tank gets a 3-day, 2-night trip to a World Series game and a laptop. In addition, Jackie Robinson's daughter Sharon will visit our school and speak to the 7th grade on April 24th. She will make a special visit with my 1st pd. class to give out books, t-shirts, and autographs. His teacher (Emily McLain) also receives a laptop. Tank's prizes have a total value of $7,650!
